Pupil Premium
Schools are allocated a sum of money to support the educational provision for children from families who have a low income. The purpose of this ring-fenced funding is to support the social mobility of these pupils by helping them to make good progress at school: research evidence consistently shows significant under-performance amongst this group of children.
“Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. New measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of those deprived pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.” [DfE, Dec 2011]
The DfE has put more emphasis on its use for highly evidenced strategies such as quality first teaching and tutoring for interventions.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is traditionally how most schools have funded their Regents Camps UK sessions.
Can be used to cover the remaining costs of tuition that are not covered by the National Tutoring Programme.
